COVID-19 has impacted the world. What is La Tortilla Factory doing to protect the health and safety of employees and customers?

First and foremost, we want to extend a HUGE thank you to the medical community and the essential workers on the front lines who are working hard to protect and nourish our communities, while taking care of their own. Our family of employees included. We are forever grateful to our team who has been working around the clock to continue to make and ship our products to our grocery partners and through our online store.

The short answer to this question, is here at La Tortilla Factory we have been doing A LOT to protect our internal teams, partners, and customers. Health and safety is paramount. We have been taking every extra precaution to produce our products with care and with the health and safety of all of us in mind.

Our commitment to quality ingredients, production, and sanitation standards has always been best-in-class. As a critical member of our food supply, we are deemed as an essential service and are monitored by the Department of Health as a food-safe facility as well as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

During these uncertain times and navigating the effects of COVID-19, here is a list of some specific actions we have taken:
- We have always followed a set of GMPs (Good Manufacturing Procedures) that are set forth by the US Food and Drug Administration which includes things like hand washing stations and a separate smock room where employees dress in aprons, hairnets, gloves, etc.
- We have implemented extra sanitation procedures including extra hand sanitizer availability, extra handwashing rules, extra sanitizer added to our mop cleaning water, and more frequent cleaning of shared surfaces to our already robust sanitation schedule.
- Social Distancing procedures are in place throughout including how employees clock-in, store personal belongings, take breaks and eat lunch. For our office employees, this also means working from home to reduce the number of people in our buildings.
- We have restricted visitors to our entire campus- that includes in the office and within our production facilities.
- We are limiting our movement between our facilities.
- There is a travel ban in place for non-essential travel and outside meetings, which essentially means no travel unless it is to procure ingredients or deliver final products to our grocery partners.
- Our team of Direct-Store-Delivery drivers is equipped with disposable gloves for all deliveries as well as personal hand sanitizer.
- We are also in constant communication with our workforce and are ready to react as the situation changes.

We encourage you to listen to the guidelines set forth by your state and local officials. It is the responsibility of all of us to do our part, stay home whenever possible, and to help flatten the curve to help make it safer for those working hard to protect, treat, and sustain us. We're all in this together. And we thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support!

Do you offer any Gluten Free products?

Yes! We’re proud to offer several certified Gluten Free products. All of our corn tortillas are naturally gluten free, and our Gluten Free, Wheat Free Ivory Teff Wraps and Sonoma All Natural Gluten Free, Wheat Free Ivory Teff Wraps are certified Gluten Free. Each of these products are tested for the presence of gluten, up to 10 parts per million (ppm), during production.

Our corn tortillas are manufactured on dedicated equipment in an isolated, gluten free room. Our Gluten Free, Wheat Free Ivory Teff wraps are made on the same manufacturing equipment as our wheat flour products, but we use a very strict and detailed process to ensure they remain gluten free.

How do you ensure they are Gluten Free?

We go above and beyond the necessary measures to ensure that our plant properly functions as a gluten-free manufacturing facility during the production of our gluten free products. The Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), which certifies our plant as a gluten free manufacturing facility, inspects us on an ongoing basis. We’ve been producing our Gluten Free, Wheat Free Ivory Teff Wraps since 2006 and have passed every inspection, every time.

From the time the gluten free raw ingredients are received, through the time they become a finished gluten free product, they are kept isolated from all other ingredients and products. We even have separate, color-coded measuring utensils, used for gluten free ingredients only!

Our Gluten Free, Wheat Free Ivory Teff Wraps are always manufactured on equipment that has been thoroughly cleaned, following strict Gluten Free Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures. A detailed pre-operation protein swab inspection is conducted before any production starts and during gluten free production we randomly test the wraps for the presence of gluten up to 10ppm (parts per million), to ensure that the wraps are gluten free.

What is the source of your maltodextrin? (component of one ingredient of the Ivory Teff wraps)

It is derived from corn.

Do your products contain allergens?

Of the “Big Eight” allergens recognized in the US, our facility works with two: Wheat and Soy. Some of our products will contain one or both of these ingredients. We are a milk, egg, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nut and peanut free manufacturing facility.

We also offer certified gluten free products. All of our corn products, including our Gluten Free, Wheat Free Ivory Teff Wraps and our Sonoma All Natural Gluten Free, Wheat Free Ivory Teff Wraps are certified gluten free by The Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO).

Can I order directly from the factory?

Yes! You can now purchase our most popular tortillas, wraps, and sauces direct from our factory in Santa Rosa, California on our online store at https://shop.latortillafactory.com. At this time, we can ship within the continental United States but we are unable to ship to Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and P.O. Boxes. You can view our full Shipping Policy here. We regularly add new products to our online store but not all of our products are available as some are not shelf-stable and must be handled frozen.

We also sell directly through our Amazon storefront. Please note, if you are purchasing our products on Amazon but not through our official Amazon Store, they are being sold by a re-seller and are not coming directly from our factory.

How long is your product good for after I open it?

Good question! If stored at room temperature opened or unopened: products should be eaten by the sell-by date for optimal taste and quality. If stored refrigerated, open or unopened: products may remain fresh up to 30 days beyond the sell-by date. If frozen, products can be stored and used up to 90 days past sell-by date. If you’ve frozen your tortillas, we recommend placing them in the refrigerator to thaw prior to enjoying them. Once thawed, they should remain in the fridge and be eaten within 30 days.
